AONBs

An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) is an area recognised for its considerable landscape value and importance. Like National Parks, AONBs are protected landscapes. This means development in these areas is controlled, ensuring conservation and enhancement of local heritage and wildlife. Unlike National Parks, AONBs do not have independent governing bodies and are designated through public bodies such as Natural England. Yorkshire holds two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, as listed below:
